LUANDA, ANGOLA: Angolans are voting for the first time since a 1992 election sparked a renewal of civil war.

The campaign has been relatively peaceful in this southern African nation, stoking hope oil- and diamond-rich country may finally be on the road to peace and prosperity. Members of parliament are being chosen Friday. Angola's presidential
elections are expected next year.

Fighting broke out after independence in 1975 and ended in 2002 when the army killed rebel leader Jonas Savimbi.
The Popular Liberation Movement of Angola, which has ruled since independence, is expected to retain power.
