Angela Merkel meets Maharashtra Governor
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday met Maharashtra Governor SM Krishna during which she expressed interest in establishing a partnership between the state and a state in Germany.
During her 30-minute-long meeting with the Governor, Merkel discussed various problems of Maharashtra, particularly that of Mumbai, including housing, sanitation, water supply and employment opportunities for the urban poor.
The Chancellor also suggested a partnership between a state in Germany and Maharashtra, which was welcomed by Krishna, an official release said here.
Krishna also said that Maharashtra would welcome cooperation from Germany in the areas of manufacturing, automobile, accessories and services. They also discussed areas of possible cooperation and investment in the future.
Merkel, who is on a two-day-long visit to the city, was accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation.
Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak and secretary to the Governor Sitaram Kunte were also present at the meeting.
