PUDUCHERRY: Staff of anganwadi centres here would henceforth generate awareness among people on the three mega social security insurance schemes launched by the Centre last month.

Inaugurating a two-day intensive training programme for them here, welfare and Tourism Minister P Rajavelu explained the highlights of 'Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana' (accident and disability insurance scheme), Pradhan Mantri Jeev Jyoti Yojana (life insurance) and Atal Pension yojana, he urged to people enroll in large numbers as banks where they had savings bank accounts would take care of the needs of crediting the premium through auto debiting facility.

Rajavelu said these three social security measures would be of great help as the premium payment was very minimal.

Local Administration Minister N G Panneerselvam and officials of Indian Bank (lead bank in Puducherry) and the Department of Women and Child Development also spoke.

Rajavelu said anganwadi staff could be an effective medium to act as a bridge between the beneficiaries and banks to ensure that massive enrollment of people was achieved. The staff would explain highlights of the insurance schemes to the people, he said.
