Andhra Pradesh to buy VVIP transport helicopter

Andhra Pradesh contracted a deal for purchasing an executive transport helicopter for VVIP movements with British-Italian manufacturer AgustaWestland.

FARNBOROUGH: Andhra Pradesh today contracted a deal for purchasing an executive transport helicopter for VVIP movements with British-Italian manufacturer AgustaWestland, which has established a product support service in India.

The Indian state has struck a deal for buying the AW139 medium twin-engine helicopter, joining the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh in operating AgustaWestland choppers for VVIP transport, company sources said, on the sidelines of the world's largest international air show here.

With this deal, AgustaWestland becomes one of the major helicopter manufacturers to have a large commercial presence in India, with about 20 helicopters of various types ordered by both State governments and Corporate clients.

The other commercial choppers from the AgustaWestland stable in use in India include the single-engine AW119 and the twin-engine AW109 choppers.

The AW139s are also used for offshore transport, search and rescue, medical assistance roles, law enforcement and for other government tasks.

AgustaWestland also announced that it has established a product support service in India to get closer to its customers so as to provide the best possible service.
