VISAKHAPATNAM: A delegation of Congress leaders led by its Andhra Pradesh unit chief N Raghuveera Reddy today left for the national capital from here as part of 'Chalo Delhi' campaign seeking special category status for the state.

The Congress leaders would be meeting the President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a few other leaders and hand over one crore signatures collected by the party in support of the demand.

Raghuveera Reddy said the BJP-led Union government had failed to protect the interests of Andhra Pradesh as per the AP Reorganisation Act-2014.

He also criticised the BJP leader and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu for his silence over the special category status.

Naidu, as an opposition leader, had said at the time of passage of bifurcation bill that BJP was committed to granting the special category status for AP for 10 years, he claimed.
