MUMBAI: Well-known industrialist, Anand Mahindra has been appointed as Chairman of the National Safety Council (NSC) by the government.

Mahindra would take over the post from Kumar Mangalam Birla, who led the National Safety Council for over three years, a press release issued here today said.

"I am honoured to assume the post of Chairman of the National Safety Council, a position which my father had also previously held. With an increasing level of automation at the workplace and all around us, safety has assumed greater importance and organisations such as the NSC go a long way in educating the public about the need to create a safe and healthy atmosphere at work," Mahindra said.

The National Safety Council was set up by the Ministry of Labour in 1966 as an autonomous body to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on safety, health and environment at the national level.
