The restaurant owner, Tony Walters, has launched an appeal to raise funds for the chef family, who are based in India. Bhandari has four children under the age of 13, and his wife, who is reported to be ill in India.
Bhandari, who worked in five-star hotels in India, had recently moved to Lancashire from Birmingham.
"It is such a tragic situation for those children to lose their dad, and with his wife being ill as well they need all the support we can give them," Walters said.
"We all went for lunch together the day before he died," Walters said adding, he told us that he had settled in really well and how much he was enjoying it here.
"It is a terrible shock. He was a really popular member of the team and a brilliant chef," he added.
