Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday attacked the Stalin led DMK government in Tamil Nadu calling it the most corrupt government of the country. Shah was speaking after flagging off the En Mann En Makkal (My Land My People) yatra taken by state BJP president K Annamalai in Rameshwaram.

“DMK government is the most corrupt state government of the country. One of the state ministers has been arrested by ED in a multi crores scam. But he is still a minister. Stalin should be ashamed of it,” Shah said to the crowd in Rameshwaram. He asked the people whether a person who is in jail can remain a minister.

TN minister S Balaji is currently in jail in a multicrore scam investigated by the ED. He added that TN chief minister Stalin is scared that if he removes him, he will lay bare all the dark secrets. The yatra which started today will pass through the entire state ending in January next year. Annamalai would travel 10,000 km in a vehicle and walk another 700 km.

Shah evoked the Tamil pride, language and culture during his speech. “This is not a political yatra. It is a yatra to take the Tamil language, Tamil culture to every part of the country as well as the world. It is yatra to free Tamil Nadu from dynasty politics and corruption,” he said. Talking about the NDA government at the centre, Shah said that PM Modi has established the politics of performance over caste and dynasty politics.

Shah also mentioned former chief ministers and AIADMK leaders MGR and Jayalaitha during his speech. “This yatra will take forward MGR and Jayalaitha’s mantra of ‘Gareeb Kalyan’ to every village of the state. AIADMK is the part of NDA led by the BJP.

Shah also mentioned the Modi government initiatives like ‘Kashi Tamil Samagam, Saurashtra Tamil Samagam, honouring the Sengol in the new parliament as part of PM Modi’s idea to take the Tamil culture to the world. The union home minister attacked the previous UPA government for ignoring the welfare and concerns of Tamil people. “During the UPA government the killings of Tamils took place in Sri Lanka. The DMK and Congress are responsible for all the sufferings of the Tamil fishermen,” Shah alleged.
