Amit Shah had role in 2002 Gujarat riots: Sanjiv Bhatt to Supreme Court
NEW DELHI: Former Gujarat cop dismissed from the Indian Police Service, Sanjiv Bhatt, on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking to make BJP president Amit Shah a party in his pending petition that has alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a role in the Gujarat riots.

In a fresh plea, Bhatt cited the riot case in which former Cong leader Ehsan Jafri was killed, and the Sohrabuddin and Ishrat encounters as examples where state’s top law officers and aides of then CM Modi, apart from Shah and Gurumurthy, 'colluded' with lawyers for the accused to 'interfere' with judicial proceedings and 'stymie' justice.

BJP president Amit Shah was also named in a complaint filed by Ehsan Jafri's widow Zakia against the state and its key functionaries over their alleged involvement in the riots in Gulberg society.
