NEW DELHI: BJP chief Amit Shah chaired a meeting of party general secretaries to discuss the fallout of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and chalk out the roadmap for countering protests across the country. The party has slammed Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for passage of a resolution demanding scrapping of CAA.

BJP has been taking new measures to counter the widespread protests against CAA. These include asking BJP supporters to write postcards to the Prime Minister thanking him for passage of the CAB and holding press interactions and intellectual meets in various state capitals. Prime Minister Modi and Shah had even shared a video of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev supporting CAA.

Shah will address a rally in Jodhpur on January 3 in support of CAA while BJP working preseidnet JP Nadda will be in Vadodara on January 2 and Panaji the next day to address the people.

The government is also reportedly mulling over other means like online applications for citizenship under CAA. This may be necessitated in the wake of several non-BJP ruled states saying they will not implement CAA. Kerala has taken the lead on the issue.

“There is a constitutional obligation on every state to exercise the executive power in such a way that ensures compliance with laws made by Parliament,” Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

BJP Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao may move a privilege notice against Vijayan for tabling of anti-CAA resolution in Kerala Assembly.
