Ahmedabad: The Congress high command on Thursday named Amit Chavda as Gujarat Congress president, replacing Shaktisinh Gohil, who quit after the party's bypoll losses.
Siddharth Chaudhary, son of former CM Amarsinh Chaudhary, will now be the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
Chavda, a relative of ex-CM Madhavsinh Solanki, earlier headed the state unit (2018-21) and became LoP after the party's 2022 poll debacle.
The move comes amid Patidar leaders pressing for more representation in Congress-a factor BJP has long leveraged to consolidate its base.
