In Manipur five civil society organisations have called for Republic Day boycott.
As a mark of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill across the Northeast, several organisations including militant groups have called for boycott of Republic Day celebrations in Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.

Security agencies across the Northeast are on high alert, said a senior police official. “Security has been intensified along the interstate and international border. Police is maintaining vigil on vehicle movement,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), one of the organisations that gave the boycott call, asked its units, educational institutions and students not to participate in any government functions or events related to Republic Day celebrations.

NSF has also demanded that the Nagaland government clarify whether it is for or against the bill and not confuse people with press statements and counterstatements. In Manipur five civil society organisations have called for Republic Day boycott. The umbrella organisation of militant outfits has called for a ban on all forms of celebrations in the entire northeast region, along with a shutdown for 12 hours on Saturday.
