Amid speculation over Rajib Banerjee’s return to the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the BJP has sent a letter to Banerjee asking him to attend the closed-door working committee meeting of the party on June 29.

The BJP’s North Bengal leader Rathindranath Bose has been asked to coordinate with the former West Bengal forest minister Banerjee, who held additional charge of the irrigation department, said people aware of the matter.

In a letter to the BJP, Banerjee had asked the senior leadership to do the needful to bring back the displaced party cadres of Domjur in Howrah district. Meanwhile, he has sent two letters to the BJP with the same appeal, said party functionaries.

Banerjee sent the letter to West Bengal BJP general secretary (organisation) Amitabha Chakraborty, they said without revealing the details of the letter. Banerjee, who was once a close associate of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, visited home of TMC spokesperson and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, sparking speculation that he may return to the AITC.
