Assam receives several waves of flood annually, causing huge loss to people, agriculture and economy.

GUWAHATI: At a time when the state is hit by COVID-19 pandemic, first of wave has hit Assam.

There is incessant rain in Assam in last two days. In villages of Barpeta in Lower Assam around 630 people were affected.

According to Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Jia Bharali River is flowing above danger level in last 24 hours.


Assam receives several waves of flood annually, causing huge loss to people, agriculture and economy.

The state is rushing to complete repairing work of embankment .Following the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, embankment repair work was halted on March 24 last. However, the work will resume on April 21.

The water resource department claimed that it has completed repair of 32 embankments out of 38 breached ones.
