Amethi rejects govt version of Lokpal

After Kapil Sibal's parliamentary constituency Chandni Chowk, people of Amethi have also rejected the government version of Lokpal.

LUCKNOW: After union HRD minister Kapil Sibal's parliamentary constituency Chandni Chowk, the people of Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi, have also rejected the government version of Lokpal. In the referendum conducted by members of India Against Corruption ( IAC), over 90% of people have supported the Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by Team Anna. The referendum was conducted between July 25 and August 9. The questionnaire was distributed to over 1.5 lakh people, of which 83,216 responded. An overwhelming 96% said supported the idea of bringing entire government machinery under Jan Lokpal. While 87% voted in favour of bringing prime minister under the Jan Lokpal, 72% supported inclusion of judiciary in the ambit of ombudsman proposed by Team Anna.

While 89% people voted for tabling the Team Anna's Jan Lokpal Bill along with the government's version of Lokpal in Parliament, 94% respondents felt every MP should conduct a referendum in his constituency and vote in Parliament on Lokpal Bill as per the wishes of the people instead of party line. Nearly 93% people said Lokpal should have power to take action against MPs and minister guilty of corruption.

Further, 95% people supported the proposal that every department should bring a citizen charter defining work of employees & period under which the work has to be completed.
