American Commerce Delegation Visits Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi

A 33-member delegation of American Chamber of Commerce and Industries of India (ACCII) held a meet with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi

AHMEDABAD: A 33-member delegation of American Chamber of Commerce and Industries of India (ACCII) held a meet with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The president of American Chamber Atul Singh led the delegation to discussed the possibilities of the investment and setting up of projects by the American companies in Gujarat.

The state government and ACCII will jointly create a work plan in this regard. In this regard, the meet also decided to organise a special seminar that will cover all the aspects of the manufacturing of defense security equipments. In 2005, America denied visa to Modi for his alleged complicity in Gujarat's violence in 2002. The state machinery is working hard to attract American investments in the state to build relationship with US government. Last week, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries representatives invited Modi to Pakistan to share the successful economic model of the state through video conference. The delegation from Pakistan was in Gujarat to attend the Asia Colour Chemicals Mega Exhibition, held in Ahmedabad.

During the meet the chief minister expressed desire to make India self-dependent in the manufacturing of defense equipments. He gave outlines of the state government’s initiatives in setting up of maritime security equipment projects in view of the state’s 1,600 km long coastline. The ACCII members expressed keenness in providing technical expertise to Gujarat for the manufacturing of defense equipments.

Meanwhile, commenting on Gujarat government’s stand on organised retail, Modi said, “Amul Pattern has been successful in organised retail. Gujarat will adhere to ‘Amul pattern’ avoiding the ‘Walmart pattern’. The state government will stick to the policies that care for the broader good of farmers, buyer and the traders.”

Chief Minister also mentioned about the state’s solar power consumption incentive policy and agro-green house power policy, which are in preparation phase. Gujarat has initiated in promoting renewable energy sources and in bringing qualitative changes in the life style of the people, read the media statement.

Mentioning that the land acquisition has become a controversial issue across India, Modi said that Gujarat makes sure that land acquisition does not create conflicts. He also gave details of the state government’s initiatives for reducing infant mortality rate and providing nutritious food to mother and children and talked about the state’s policy on infrastructure development, agro-food processing, cold supply chain network, value-added organised retail, education, ‘rurban’ project, rain water harvesting and water treatment management.
