Amendments to key environment laws being reviewed: Prakash Javadekar

HYDERABAD: Government is currently reviewing the inputs from states and stakeholders on proposed amendments to five Central Acts related to environment, Environment minister Prakash Javadekar said today.

On the bringing amendments to five key environment laws, enacted between 1971 and 1986, Javadekar said it is under review of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

"We are amending and reviewing all the laws and its efficacy. They are Forest (Conservation) Act 1980, Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, Environment (Protection) Act 1986, Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981," he said, after visiting the Forest Academy at Dulapally here.

"Based on experience, we are reviewing and there are many suggestions coming from all the states and stakeholders. We will review and definitely amend the laws," Javedekar told PTI.

He said amendments are required in all the five Acts and it will be done step by step, adding that the exercise aim to strengthen the mechanism and make laws more environmental friendly.
