Ambika Soni rubbishes reports of quitting Congress
NEW DELHI: AICC general secretary Ambika Soni has debunked speculation that she was resigning from the party while asserting she “shall remain loyal to the Congress and the leadership of the Gandhis”.

The ‘breaking news’ about her ‘resignation’ followed reports that she had requested the leadership to lighten her responsibility for health reasons. “All these talk of me quitting the party is baseless and mischievous.

Why should I ever quit the Congress which I joined due to my ideological conviction? In return, the party has given me so much. I shall remain loyal to the Congress and the leadership of the Gandhis and continue to work to strengthen the party,” Soni told ET.

About her request to the leadership to lighten her responsibilities, which include her charge of party affairs in Himachal Pradesh (which goes to polls in December), J&K and Uttarakhand, Soni said, “For a year now, I have been requesting the Congress president to lighten my duties in the party due to my health. Remember, I am 74-year old and I am not keeping well.”
