Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has disclosed ownership of three vehicles in his election affidavit filed for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Gadkari listed an Ambassador from 1994, a 2016 Honda CRV, and an Isuzu D-Max among his possessions. The latest addition to his garage, the Isuzu D Max, was purchased in 2024.

According to the affidavit, Gadkari values the Ambassador at Rs 10,000, the Honda CR-V at Rs 16,75,000, and the D-Max at Rs 12,55,000. Additionally, he declared that his wife, Kanchan Nitin Gadkari, owns a 2014 Toyota Innova valued at Rs 5,25,000, a Mahindra worth Rs 4,10,000, and a Tata Intra V10 valued at Rs 7,19,843.

Gadkari wants to eliminate petrol, diesel vehicles in India

Recently, as part of his vision to transition India into a green economy, Nitin Gadkari said that he aims to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles and eliminate the country's dependence on over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. Gadkari expressed confidence in achieving this goal, emphasizing that while challenging, it is not impossible. He highlighted the potential benefits, including utilizing funds currently spent on fuel imports to improve the lives of farmers, boost rural prosperity, and create employment opportunities for the youth.

Although Gadkari did not specify a timeline for this ambitious objective, he indicated that the proposal to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles to five percent and on flex engines to 12 percent has been forwarded to the Finance Ministry for consideration.

Gadkari's first Vehicle

Earlier this year, Nitin Gadkari, affectionately known as the "Highway Man of India" for his infrastructure endeavors, reminisced about his first-ever vehicle during the launch event of the Kinetic E-Luna, a revamped version of the iconic moped now powered by electricity. Gadkari revealed that his maiden vehicle was none other than the Luna itself, a sentimental gift from his mother.

Reflecting on his early days with the Luna, Gadkari remarked, "On this special occasion, I recall my first vehicle - the Luna, a cherished present from my mother. Despite owning various vehicles today, the Luna remains close to my heart due to the sentimental value attached to it."

Initially introduced in 1972 by Kinetic Engineering as a 50cc moped, the Kinetic Luna gained immense popularity in the late 90s. Fast forward to 2024, amidst India's electric vehicle revolution, particularly in the two-wheeler segment for last-mile mobility, Kinetic Green has launched the new E-Luna.
