Amarnath yatra resumes
After a day-long suspension owing to inclement weather, the Amarnath yatra resumed on Monday with a fresh batch of 3531 pilgrims leaving the base camp here for the venerated cave shrine amid tight security.
Devotees, including 619 women and 70 children, left the Bagwati Nagar base camp for the Amarnath shrine in South Kashmir at around 0530 hrs, police said.
The vehicles carrying the pilgrims were escorted by CRPF personnel, they said. The pilgrimage was suspended yesterday due to torrential rains and hostile weather on the shrine route.
So far, 30,593 pilgrims, hailing from different parts of the country, have left the Jammu base camp for the Amarnath temple since the commencement of the yatra on June 17.
As many as 3,78,987 pilgirms have offered prayers till now at tbe holy ice lingum of Lord Shiva in the cave shrine located in Lidder valley.
