Amarinder Singh's brother Malwinder Singh joins SAD

The Congress has nominated Amarinder's son Raninder from Samana. "I have joined the Akali Dal unconditionally," Malwinder told reporters.

CHANDIGARH: Malwinder Singh, brother of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, on Saturday joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal after he was denied nomination from the Samana Assembly seat by the Congress.

The Congress has nominated Amarinder’s son Raninder from Samana. “I have joined the Akali Dal unconditionally,” Malwinder told reporters.

When asked if he would contest polls on a SAD ticket, he said, “It is for the Akali Dal to decide.” “In any case I am with Akali Dal now ... in our country it’s a tradition that elders in the family are respected. After I had applied for the Samana seat, Raninder also applied. Had I been in his place, I would have not let that happen. It is not that I am against them [Amarinder and family]. It is they who started it.”

Malwinder, however, added he won’t campaign against his brother Amarinder and his sister-in-law Karan Brar, a Congress nominee from Faridkot.
