Punjab Cong Prez welcomed the Centre's decision to implement the one-rank-one-pension scheme for all the ex-servicemen in the country.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh today welcomed the Centre's decision to implement the one-rank-one-pension scheme for all the ex-servicemen in the country.

He expressed his gratitude to Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister AK Anthony "without whose support it would not have been possible."

In a statement issued here, the former chief minister said, "It was a long pending demand of hundreds and thousands of ex-servicemen from across the country."

He said there are a number of ex-servicemen in Punjab who will benefit from this move of the central government.

Amarinder said he had personally taken up the case of the ex-servicemen for one-rank-one-pension with the central government, particularly the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister Anthony.

The one-rank-one-pension was also in the election manifesto of the Congress party, he said.
