NEW DELHI: With the alliance talks between the two parties remaining deadlocked, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday authorised his trusted lieutenant Amar Singh to finalise the seat-sharing agreement with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Amar Singh will be meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her political secretary Ahmed Patel, external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to wrap up the process of ticket distribution in Uttar Pradesh as soon as possible, so that preparations for the election can be kicked off in earnest, Mr Yadav told newspersons here on Friday afternoon. He, however, refused to divulge the details of seat-sharing talks, saying that details regarding seats given or taken would be revealed only after they are finalised.

Even after two rounds of talks for identifying and finalising seats, the leaders of both the parties failed to make headway because of the SPs refusal to accede to Congress demands.

The Congress, which has nine MPs from the state, wants to be given a larger share.
