Amar Singh praises Sonia Gandhi, waits for Lok Sabha ticket
NEW DELHI: Former SP leader Amar Singh popped up on the political radar again when news of his contesting on a Congress ticket from Gautam Buddh Nagar (aka Noida) started making the rounds. Singh told ET that while the seat was “quite suitable for me, with at least 3 lakh Muslim voters”, he couldn’t presume to tell the Congress to consider him.

Congress sources said there was still a question mark on Singh’s candidature.

But the party has given a green signal to the candidature of Jaya Prada, Singh’s close friend, from Moradabad. The growing proximity between Singh and the Congress has been long in the making and Singh himself describes it as a “growing realisation that Sonia Gandhi is truly a most noble lady”.

“After my troubles with law, with my health, most of my so-called friends — Mulayam Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, others —abandoned me. I found that Sonia Gandhi is a noble lady and I am truly grateful for her kindness,” he said.

When asked about the kindness extended by Sonia Gandhi, Singh said: “When no one was visiting me, a warm pat on the cheek of my crying children is enough, one moment of consolation is enough.”
