Amar Singh hits out at fiscal management
Amar Singh, the SP general secretary on Thursday came down heavily on the UPA’s - especially finance minister P Chidambaram’s - fiscal management.
We have supported the UPA, not surrendered to it, Mr Singh said here on Thursday. The SP leader also hit out at finance minister P Chidambaram for his failure to rein in inflation, which has soared to 12.44 per cent. We will launch an agitation against the spiralling prices if the government doesnt change its strategy, he cautioned.
The UPA, in particular Mr Chidambaram, have been boasting of high GDP growth. But Mr Chidambaram has failed to check high inflation, which is breaking the back of the common man. If the finance ministry continues to pursue the wrong policies, the Samajwadi Party will begin an agitation against the UPA in and outside Parliament, Mr Singh said.
The SP leader said economic growth too had slowed down, with inflation touching a 13-year high. The SP general secretary reiterated his demand to strengthen the rupee and freeze its value at a fixed rate to bring down inflation.
Mr Singh led an SP delegation to deputy chief minister RR Patil with a demand to rehabilitate the victims of communal clashes in Digras in Vidarbha last month.
