Amar Singh denies donating money to Clinton Foundation

NEW DELHI: Former Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh has vehemently denied being the benefactor behind a $5 million donation to the Clinton Foundation, as reported by the New York Post on April 28th. The report says that among the list of donors is Amar Singh against whom a donation of $5million is listed, apparently his entire net worth according to his election affidavit.

“That is not my donation, I have not given that money to the The Clinton Foundation,” Singh told ET. “If any friend has done that on my behalf I am grateful to them, but its not mine,” he said.

He added that “by the grace of God, my corporate rivals have left no stone unturned to put me into legal trouble. I have been investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) under the hostile Mayawati regime, by a court monitored Enforcement Directorate probe, and have come out clean.” He didn’t deny that he was close to former US president Bill Clinton, and attended a few dinners in his honour.

The donation was said to have been made in 2008, when the US Congress was debating the Indo-US civil nuclear cooperation deal. Hillary Clinton had voted in favour of the deal.

The Clinton Foundation’s finances have come under heavy scrutiny after Hillary Clinton’s announcement that she would be running for the US presidency. Some of that scrutiny has now reached India.
