Alok Verma frontrunner for post of CBI Director
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma is the frontrunner for the post of director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge met late on Monday evening but no announcement was made at the time of going to press. Kharge and Khehar remained incommunicado after the meeting.

As ET reported on Monday, the list of probable has 49 names. Along with Verma, the other main contenders include Maharashtra General of Police Satish Mathur and Rupak Kumar Dutta, the former No. 2 in the CBI, and two senior women officers, Archana Ramasundaram and Aruna Bahuguna.
