All public grievances need to be resolved in two months: Jitendra Singh

NEW DELHI: All public grievances need to be addressed within two months time, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said today.

A grievance is required to be redressed within a period of two months as per the guidelines by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

The Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension said that in case, it is not possible, an interim reply with reasons for delay is required to be provided.

"However, due to federal structure of governance, each state can also create its own grievance redress mechanism prescribing different time lines for redress of public grievances," he said.

The grievance received in the nodal department of the central government which pertains to a state government is forwarded to it for appropriate action, the minister said.

Citizens' grievances against the central government ministries have increased over three-fold in 2015 as compared to the previous year, he said, adding that over 8.81 lakh complaints have been received by the government due to a "surge in the number of citizen-friendly measures".

A total of 8,81,132 public grievance complaints were received last year as against 2,70,255 in 2014. During 2012, a total of 1,76,126 such grievances were received as against 2,09,637 in 2013, according to official data.
