Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said all people living in India are Hindus in terms of identity.

Bhagwat is on a two day visit to Meghalaya. He said, Hindu is not a religion but a way of life. Addressing a gathering at U Soso Tham auditorium in Shillong, the RSS chief said, RSS says all are Hindu because we are the habitat of Hindustan. Hindustan is in the south of the Himalayas, North of Indian Ocean, on the bank of the Indus River. The habitat of this area is traditionally called Hindus. This is also called Bharat because it’s Synonyms.

He said even before the Mughals who spread Islam and the British rulers who spread Christianity, Hindus were already in existence.

He said the term ‘Hindu’ covers all those who are the sons of Bharat Mata [Mother India], descendants of Indian ancestors and who live in accordance with Indian culture. Ruling out the fear of religious conversion, Bhagwat said to become Hindu one doesn’t have to change since everyone here is Hindu.

Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, while defining India said that India is not a country with a western concept. It has been a cultural country since time immemorial; in fact, it is such a country, which has taught the world the lesson of humanity.
