All parties demand student elections to be re-introduced

NCP, Congress and the BJP have unanimously demanded that student elections should be re-introduced in Maharashtra, reports Our Bureau from Mumbai. Student elections were banned in 1994 following complaints about malpractices and violence.

NCP Executive President Jitendra Awhad said: “College and university students must participate in the democratic process. If these students can vote in assembly and parliament elections, why should they not choose their own representatives through polls.”

BJP MLA and President of the state students wing Pankaja Palwe said, “It is important to introduce students to the democratic systems and elections so that they can later pursue this interest in society.”
