Amid growing concern over the delay in preparations for Commonwealth Games 2010, the government has set a deadline for completion of crucial Games projects and said all facilities will be in place in time.

NEW DELHI: Amid growing concern over the delay in preparations for Commonwealth Games 2010, the government has set a deadline for completion of crucial Games projects and said all facilities will be in place in time.
The Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said that all infrastructures projects would be completed on time. Preparations are in full swing to complete the stadiums, Games Village and other projects.
"The work of practice venue will commence in February 2008 and is likely to be completed by May 2010. The tendering process of temporary overlay will commence in June 2009 and the work on ground will be commenced in January 2010 and is expected to be completed by 2010," he said.
According to status report prepared by the Urban Development Ministry, the DDA, which is assigned to construct the Games village, has been asked to complete the project by March 2010. The work on the residential apartments has been started, said a senior DDA official associated with the project.
Besides constructing residential accommodation for 8,000 participants, the civic agency has to construct practice venues, swimming pool, fitness centre, wrestling, weight lifting and athletics track.
The work on temporary overlay for dining hall, international zone and offices will be taken up in January 2009.
Government is coordinating signing of MoU between the Delhi government and Uttar Pradesh government for continuous supply of adequate water to Sonia Vihar water treatment plant in view of the Games.
