Alert in North Bengal railway stations
Railway stations in North Bengal have been put on alert after a bomb exploded in a passenger train compartment in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Railway Police Sanjiv Kumar Basu said that as soon as news of the Assam blast was received, senior police officials rushed to New Jalpaiguri and other railway stations and reviewed the security measures.
Security was beefed up at the railway stations in North Bengal after the recent Mumbai terror attacks.
Basu said security personnel were deployed at all access points to the stations. Increased surveillance checks and round-the-clock vigil was being maintained by security forces at the stations, he added.
He said police was manning all access points to the stations and have also intensified baggage checking through metal door detectors and dog squads.
