High alert is sounded in Assam following warnings of tropical cyclone Mahasen likely to hit Northeast India.

GUWAHATI: High alert is sounded in Assam following warnings of tropical cyclone Mahasen likely to hit Northeast India.

All boats and ferry services on Brahmaputra have been closed for the next three days and fishermen have been directed not to venture out to the river.

Dr Sanjay O' Neill Shaw, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati told ET, “Already the cyclone has hit the land an entered Bangladesh. Following this some parts on Northeast India including Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh may witness rain.
