DUBAI: Al-Qaeda has promised to “soon” release its slain chief Osama bin Laden’s final audio message, which was recorded a week before his killing by the US special forces in Pakistan’s garrison city of Abbottabad.

In a four-page statement, the terror group said bin Laden recorded the audio message a week before his death which will be released shortly, according to the US monitoring group SITE.

Al-Qaeda, in its first statement after the killing of of bin Laden on May 2, confirmed the dreaded terrorist’s death and vowed more attacks on the US and Europe. Bin Laden’s death will be “a curse that chases the Americans and their agents, and goes after them inside and outside their countries,” it said.

54-year-old bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist, was killed in a secret operation by special US forces in Abbottabad near Islamabad.

Al-Qaeda warned that bin Laden’s blood would not be “wasted” and attacks on the US and its allies would continue. “America and those who live in America will never enjoy security until our people in Palestine enjoy it,” the statement said.

It urged Pakistanis to rise up against their government to “cleanse” the country of what it called the shame brought on it by bin Laden’s shooting.

Some Muslims have been sceptical of bin Laden’s death, especially as the US has said it will not release what it called gruesome images of his corpse for fear of inciting more violence.

One survey conducted in Pakistan by the British-based YouGov polling organisation found that 66 percent of over 1,000 respondents did not think the person killed by US Navy SEALs was bin Laden.

Meanwhile, a report said chief of Pakistan’s ISI, Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, has left for the US to explain his country’s position on the presence of bin Laden in the country against the backdrop of reports that he may step down.
