Ajmer blast case: Aseemanand acquitted by special NIA court; 3 other found guilty

NEW DELHI: A special Jaipur NIA court today acquitted Swami Aseemanand in the 2007 Ajmer blast case, while holding three other -- Sunil Joshi, Bhavesh Patel and Devendra Gupta -- guilty in the case. The court also gave a clean chit to two other.

Swami Aseemanand was accused of planning a blast at the Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer in October 2007 in which three people were killed and 15 injured. He was also accused of hatching a blast conspiracy, planting bombs, murdering and spreading communal hatred.

The case was registered in Ajmer in 2007 but probe was later handed over to NIA in 2011, which had accused Swami Aseemanand as the mastermind of the blast.


Last year, Aseemanand was granted bail in Samjhauta Express blasts case, where he’s also the prime accused.

The case took dramatic turn when accused Bhavesh Patel had alleged that several Congress leaders, including former Union ministers in the Congress government, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Digvijay Singh, had pressurising him to name senior RSS leaders as being complicit in the blast case.
