Ajit Singh to be inducted in Cabinet tomorrow

NEW DELHI: RLD chief Ajit Singh will be inducted in the Union Cabinet on Sunday in what appears to be a limited expansion of the council of ministers to be undertaken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 11.30 am.

The RLD leader is set to take over as the new civil aviation minister, replacing Vyalar Ravi, who held the portfolio as an additional charge for a little less than a year. The latter had replaced Praful Patel at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, which houses the headquarters of the ministry, in January this year.

The swearing-in of the 72-year-old Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh is taking place a week after RLD formally joined the UPA. It is the first political outfit to do so since the alliance came to power for the second time in May 2009.
