Ajit Pawar skips NCP portfolio meeting

Ajit Pawar stays away from the issue of portfolio allocation.

MUMBAI: Sulking NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who was a frontrunner for Maharashtra deputy chief minister's post, on Wednesday stayed away from a party meeting to discuss the issue of portfolio allocation.

The meeting was held at the residence of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in South Mumbai and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, state unit president R R Patil and others.

Party sources said the deliberations revolved around finalising the list of probables from the NCP quota for ministers.

The Congress-NCP talks for portfolio sharing will be held in Delhi from today with NCP chief Sharad Pawar expected to meet Defence Minister and AICC general secretary A K Antony, Congress sources said.

NCP has said it will stick to the 1999 portfolio sharing formula and has ruled out giving away plum posts of home, finance and power to Congress.

Ashok Chavan, who is set to take over as Chief Minister for the second time, state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre and Mumbai unit president Kripashankar Singh reached New Delhi this morning to discuss the portfolio allocation with the Central leaders, party sources said.
