In a replay of the Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray dispute over who controls the party, Ajit Pawar camp has begun taking affidavits of party office bearers and functionaries to lay the claim over the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The Ajit faction has asked each of its MLAs to get affidavits to collect 10,000 signatures of party functionaries and officer bearers swearing their allegiance to the leadership of Ajit Pawar. Each district President of the Ajit faction has been asked to collect 5,000 signatures.

The Election Commission is currently hearing a dispute of who actually runs the Nationalist Congress Party as the Ajit Pawar camp has claimed that the NCP name and clock symbol should be allotted to them as they have more MLA's and office bearers who are part of their faction.

The EC has only two days back directed both the Sharad Pawar and the Ajit factions to share with each other the documents they submit to the EC while staking claim to the party.

The Ajit faction has been steadily strengthening its hold in the party ever since he rebelled and decided to join the Eknath Shinde-BJP government in Maharashtra. The Sharad Pawar faction had initially claimed that they had 19 of the 53 MLAs whereas Ajit had 34 MLAs, however currently the Sharad Pawar faction has barely a dozen MLAs owing allegiance to him.
