AIUDF MLA arrested for 'govt conspiracy' comment on Pulwama & Pahalgam attacks

The Assam Police on Thursday arrested AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, following his controversial remarks on the Pahalgam terror attack. He has been taken to the Nagaon police station.

Islam had earlier alleged that the Pulwama attacks in 2019 and the Pahalgam attacks were "conspiracies by the government".

The Assam Police filed a case suo motu against Islam after a video of his comment went viral on social media. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the AIUDF MLA faces treason charges.


"We are trying to take action against anyone who is trying, directly or indirectly, to defend Pakistan after the terror attack. We have found the statement and videos of MLA Aminul Islam on social media, and he has been found to be supportive of Pakistan, so we filed a case," Sarma told reporters. Meanwhile, AIUDF chief Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal distanced from Islam's comments, sayimg his party stands with the government.
