The Rajya Sabha election to two seats has become a close fight between Congress and BJP in Assam following apprehension of cross voting.

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) the party supporting Congress' s candidate has expressed apprehension that there might be cross-voting from the Congress camp.

Congress has rubbished the rumours that it is planning to keep all its MLAs together in a hotel ahead of polls to thwart cross-voting. Assam Pradesh congress committee president Bhupen Kumar Borah said, " This are rumours to create confusion. Our candidate is meeting MLAs and we will win the seat. " BJP is confident that it will wrest both the seats for the ensuing Rajya Sabha biennial elections.
