PONDICHERRY: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Monday demanded that the Congress-led government in the Union Territory discontinue the practice of privatisation of the garbage clearance work.
A resolution adopted by the Pondicherry unit of AITUC also wanted the sanitary workers in the local bodies be paid Rs.750 each as risk allowance.
The Group D workers in the municipalities and commune panchayats should be paid a basic pay of Rs.3050 a month, it said.
The Secretary of the AITUC V S Abishegam told reporters that vacancies in various posts in local bodies should be filled on the basis of seniority and through promotion of employees.
