INDORE: Amidst political controversies over 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) on Tuesday sought equal percentage of reservation for them in government jobs and promotions as well.

"We (Congress-led UPA Government) have introduced a Bill in Parliament seeking 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assembles. We want 33 per cent reservation for them in government jobs", Prabha Thakur, MP and President of AIMC said while addressing Party's "Jan Akrosh rally" here.

Asserting reservation as needed for women empowerment, she alleged that women are often ignored at the time of promotions and should be given 33 per cent reservation in promotions.

Asked what step AIMC was taking in this direction, Thakur, who is also a renowned Hindi poetess from Rajasthan, said,"we will try to see that all the state Congress Committees include the proposal in their election manifestoes".

Referring to growing attrocities against women in Madhya Pradesh, she said it was shameful for the state government and demanded firm action against those involved in crime against women.

AICC general Secretary Narayansami, Madhya Pradesh PCC Chief Suresh Pachori, State Mahila Congress President Shobha Ojha also addressed the rally.
