AICC SC department welcomes Sonia Gandhi's statement on reservation

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi's aide K Raju, who heads the AICC Schedule Caste department, today welcomed party president Sonia Gandhi's statement reaffirming Congress' commitment to reservation for SC, ST and OBC.

"The AICC SC department welcomes the statement of the Congress president on the issue of caste based reservations which reaffirms her commitment to empower SC, ST and OBC," Raju said in a statement.

His remarks came a day after Sonia Gandhi's two page statement yesterday which sought to put a lid on the political controversy kicked up by party's general secretary Janardhan Dwidevi's remarks favouring an end to caste based reservation.

"There should be no doubt or ambiguity on the stand of the Congress on the system of reservation for SC/ST and OBCs. They were introduced by Congress, they have been strengthened by the Congress and they will continue to be championed by the Congress," Gandhi had said in her statement yesterday.
