AIADMK & TDP lock horns over trust vote

CHENNAI: Despite the barbs thrown at it by the Telugu Desam Party, the ruling party of Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK, continued disrupting proceedings in Parliament on Friday over what it termed as “poll-related wrangling by Andhra parties” having triggered the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government.

Deputy speaker of Lok Sabha and AIADMK’s propaganda secretary M Thambidurai said: “It’s just about a year for parliamentary elections and there is a fear among parties in Andhra Pradesh about political backlash if the special status for the state is not demanded. This is reflecting as a no-confidence motion in the Parliament.” For fifteen days in a row, AIADMK parliamentarians have prevented regular proceedings in the Lok Sabha.

The TDP claims the agitation by the Tamil party aimed ostensibly at exerting pressure on the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board may, in fact, have an ulterior motive – that of helping the BJP in disallowing the trust vote.
