AIADMK protests 'derogatory' article against J Jayalalithaa

Sri Lankan government has since tendered an "unqualified apology" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa for the article.

NEW DELHI: Raising the issue of "derogatory" article against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on the website of Sri Lankan defence ministry, AIADMK today demanded in Parliament that the Centre should take immediate action in this regard.

"We strongly condemn this (article against Jayalalithaa) and urge the Government to take immediate action on this as this infringes upon the sovereignty of our country," AIADMK member P Venugopal said in the Lok Sabha.

He said that the article written by a private individual was derogatory to the Chief Minister.

"What is worse is that this article has been posted on the official website of Sri Lankan Defence Ministry," he said.

In the Rajya Sabha, the issue was raised by S Muthukaruppan (AIADMK) during Zero Hour.

Sri Lankan government has since tendered an "unqualified apology" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa for the article.
