AIADMK flays delay in appointing new SEC

PUDUCHERRY: Opposition AIADMK today took strong exception to the `delay' in filling the vacancy in the post of State Election Commissioner (SEC) by the AINRC Government in Puducherry.

AIADMK local unit Secretary A Anbalagan in a statement said doubts had arisen with the delay in filling the vacancy as to whether the government would hold civic polls as the tenure of present elected civic bodies would come to a close in the next few weeks.

The municipal councils, commune and village panchayats spread over the Union Territory of Puducherry were constituted through elections in 2006 after a gap of 38 years.

The local BJP also called upon the government to fill the vacant post of SEC without delay as that would be of help to notify the schedule of civic polls.
