Ahmedabad blasts: SIMI leaders custody extended

The July 26 serial blasts in Ahmedabad killed 55 people.

AHMEDABAD: Twenty eight accused in the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts case and of planting bombs in Surat were on Saturday sent to police custody till November six.

All the accused, including alleged mastermind Mufti Abu Basher and SIMI leader Safdar Nagori, were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate G M Patel after their remand ended today.

Twelve people have been remanded for their involvement in Ishanpur blast, while ten others have been remanded for Maninagar blast and four others have been remanded for blast in Khadia area of the city.

The two accused arrested for allegedly planting of bombs in Surat have been remanded in the case registered at Kapodra police station.

The remand applications claimed all the accused are associated with SIMI and had joined hands with Indian Mujaheedin (IM) to execute serial blasts in Ahmedabad.

They are also suspected to be associated with those accused arrested by the Mumbai and Delhi police, the application added.

It further said that some of the accused have received training at terrorist camps held in Pakistan, and to know more details of these camps and about the conspiracy being hatched by them, custody of the accused was necessary.

The application said the police want to probe details of who were financing SIMI.

The July 26 serial blasts in the city killed 55 people and injured several others. Around 20 unexploded bombs were recovered from Surat in couple of days after Ahmedabad blasts.
