NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is set to announce bypolls to three Lok Sabha and 12 Assembly seats to fill up vacancies in the electoral college ahead of the polls for the President’s office later this year. President Pranab Mukherjee’s term ends on July 24.

The EC aims to fill up the vacant seats by April. The vacant LS seats are Anantnag, Srinagar and Malappuram. In December last, EC had written to the LS and RS secretariats seeking details of MPs and vacant seats. It had also sought similar details from the state assemblies.With the inputs now available, the EC has decided to fill up vacancies.

In 2012, the election for the President’s office was announced on June 12 and held on July 19.
