Ahead Manipur polls, two Congress leaders join BJP

On August 20, 2020, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee expelled Rajkumar Imo Singh from the Indian National Congress for six years under the Constitution of Indian National Congress.

Ahead of assembly polls in Manipur early next year, two Congress leaders joined the ruling BJP.

Chief Minister, N Biren Singh tweeted, “Hon’ble BJP National President Shri @JPNadda Ji met Shri RK Imo Ji after the induction ceremony. The party leadership had bestowed their blessings to the young and dynamic leader, Shri RK Imo Ji for his new journey in BJP”.

Singh in another tweet said, “ Leaders from various parties continue to join the @BJP4India. Shri Yamthong Haokip Ji, MLA of Saikul AC joined BJP today and took blessings from National Party President @JPNadda Ji & Natl. Gen Sec (Org) @blsanthosh Ji.”


Both the politicians joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the party's in-charge for Manipur Sambit Patra.

Congress in Manipur expelled Rajkumar Imo Singh from the party for six years in August last year.

Six out of eight Congress MLAs who skipped the trust vote in the state assembly last year resigned from the assembly. Five of them have already joined the BJP.

Imo Singh who is son in law of the Manipur chief minister Biren Singh had voted for the BJP candidate during the Upper House polls last year.
