NEW DELHI: Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday met representatives of more farmers’ union. “I reiterate that we are open to discussion. These laws are completely in favour of farmers and there are already positive results on the ground. Few unions are protesting. We are trying to make them understand. We are willing to continue dialogue with genuine farm unions and are willing to find a solution with an open mind.” MSP is an administrative decision and will continue, Tomar said.

“Farmer leaders from BKU (KISAN) have said that they support the government and they will make farmers aware of the laws at the district level,” he said.

Tomar also held a series of discussions with Union home minister Amit Shah, based on which further amendments to the farm laws are being discussed. The centre is examining the proposal to hold next round of talks with the protesting farmers. Govt has also conveyed to farmers’ groups that they are willing to consider other suggestions on amending the agri laws, said officials.

“If there are farmers protesting the laws, there are more farmers who have supported the laws. They are threatening to launch an agitation if the government backtracks,” claimed a senior agriculture ministry official.
